OOAK Don Post Studios Creature A master Mask custom Mechanix Illustrated Tharp
This is a recent casting from the Master mold of the DPS Creature (version A) Calendar reissue mask. The Master mold is the only plaster mold that’s made on the original clay sculpture. We do not own this mold. It has been custom painted by Cathy Tharp with a scheme that was inspired by the cover art for the 1954 Mechanix Illustrated Magazine, which depicts the underwater suit for the film. This mask is not trimmed for wearing, (although it can be trimmed) and is for display only. The Thing Latex Mask Bust Tharp Not Don Post Halloween Monster
Some years back, Don Post veteran, Cathy Tharp, produced one of the very best likenesses of actor James Arness, as The Thing from Another World. I was fortunate enough to get #2 out of the mold (see pic). This mask/bust was painted by Cathys husband, Rob Tharp, another Don Post Studios veteran. As you can see this is a beautiful mask with nice, crisp detail. The latex is in excellent condition, being cast fairly thick, actually thick enough to stand on its own, though I have kept it stuffed with paper and plastic bags. This is more of a latex bust than a mask and is not cut, nor is it meant for wearing. Up for sale is a gorgeous copy of a custom 1967 Don Post Wolfman B mask. This mask was a blank from a foamed master custom finished by Rob Tharp, former Don Post Studios employee! Vintage hair fiber was used on him and I had Rob do a special custom hair job on him to bring different color variations to the hair. He also has custom eye inserts! This is an 800 line Frankenstein mask pulled from the original master mold from the sixties. It was sculpted by Ellis Burman in the sixties. This mask was from the latex 800 line, not to be confused with the vinyl 800 series Frankenstein. This one is sometimes referred to as the “wide” Frankenstein.
