1950s BEN COOPER SPIDER-MAN HALLOWEEN COSTUME MASK BEFORE AMAZING FANTASY #15
The exact year is not known but there are known pictures of kids wearing this mask in the late 1950s, years before Marvel introduced its version of Spider-Man in 1962 in Amazing Fantasy #15. Because of their rarity, not much is known about these old costumes, but information on this is found in a book called The Full-Color Guide to Marvel Silver Age Collectibles. This would be consistent with the unused condition of the mask and string and hook. Fewer than ten of these old masks have ever turned up for sale, and this may be the one in the nicest condition.

There are 2 costumes in one box. The box has some warping and damage. There is some fraying on the collar of one cape and one skirt has down discoloration/fading. The witch mask doesn’t have the elastic band.

1950s Halco Playsuits Planet Patrol Costume & Alien Mask w Lights In Box RARE
Halco Superb Brand Playsuits. 1 Planet Patrol Costume. Child’s Large Shirt. 2 Wrist Cuffs with Snaps. Dome Helmet with Alien Antennae Imprint. 2 Related Character Alien Face Mask. Lights with Battery Housing Cylinder. Does not currently light up. Masking tape present for red eye sockets. One red eye cover is not attached. Comes In Original Box. SUPER RARE Collector’s Item. Vintage Rex Mars Planet Patrol costume shirt & mask from the J. Halpern Company made in Pittsburgh PA. Long-sleeved blue shirt with red mandarin collar and collar/lower section trimmed in yellow piping. “Planet Patrol” is printed in red on the chest along with silver designs and bars on the shoulders. It looks to be made of cotton twill with a back button closure and is labeled “large” in child’s sizes. Measures 20″ pit to pit and about 18″ from neck to waist. There is also an additional close-fitting space cap in red cotton/faux suede-like fabric with ties under the neck and 2 “space cuffs” with snap closures in the same fabric/faux suede-like combo. All 8 snaps sections are present – see cuff photos. Overall the outfit is in amazingly good shape given its age – this would be a primo display. Comes with original box. Box is in excellent condition for it’s age. Signs of wear, especially at the corners, with one small corner torn off yet still present. See detailed pictures from all angles. The costume in this lot, minus the alien mask, is portrayed on the front of the box. The mask has a clear plastic eye area and is primarily blue. This was my Dad’s costume from the 50’s. My Mom is decluttering and found this fantastic costume set from the age of children’s space adventure TV shows. Thank you for checking out my auctions and for shopping small.
